Is your child struggling with homework? Do you feel alone trying to figure out ADHD and dyslexia support? You're not alone anymore.
Welcome to Learning in a Distracted World – a free community where parents and educators of elementary students with ADHD and dyslexia find practical strategies, emotional support, and expert guidance without the overwhelm.
Why This Community Exists (The Story)
I'm Kelly Sutherland, a National Board Certified teacher with 25 years of experience. But more importantly, I'm living this journey alongside you.
My bonus son has ADHD, dyslexia, and processing challenges. I've sat at that homework table, tears streaming down both our faces, wondering what I was doing wrong. I've been the parent Googling "ADHD homework help" at 11 PM. I've felt that crushing isolation when traditional strategies don't work.
Here's what I've learned:
You're not failing. The system is failing you.
After decades of teaching struggling learners and raising one at home,
I've discovered something powerful:
The families who thrive aren't the ones with perfect strategies – they're the ones with consistent support.
That's why I created this community. Not another Facebook group where you ask questions into the void. Not another expert telling you what to do. A real community where:
☑️ Parents and educators support each other
☑️ Evidence-based strategies meet real-life implementation
☑️ You're never alone in the struggle
☑️ Progress matters more than perfection
It is a community specifically designed to offer ADHD and Dyslexia parent/teacher support.
What Makes This Community Different:
A group designed specifically for ADHD and Dyslexia parent/teacher support
1. It's Actually Free (With Transparency About What's Paid)
The community is genuinely free to join and participate in. No credit card required. No trial period that auto-charges. You'll get real support, expert guidance, and valuable resources without paying a dime.
Here's the honest truth: While the community itself is always free, I do occasionally share paid resources for families who want deeper support or done-for-you solutions. Think of it like this—the community gives you the strategies and support, and if you want me to do the heavy lifting with you through courses or toolkits, those are available. But you'll never be locked out of community discussions or made to feel "less than" if you don't purchase anything. Free members are full members, period.
2. Both Parents AND Educators Welcome
Most groups are either parent-only or teacher-only. We bring both perspectives together because collaboration creates breakthrough moments. Teachers learn what homework really looks like at home. Parents gain classroom insights. Everyone wins.
3. Elementary-Age Focus
General ADHD groups are overwhelming. We focus specifically on elementary students (K-5) because these early years are critical for building executive function skills and reading confidence.
4. Evidence-Based + Reality-Tested
Every strategy shared combines research with real-world testing. I don't share anything I haven't personally used with students or my own family.
5. Gamified Engagement (Making Support Fun)
Earn points, unlock badges, and level up by engaging and helping others. We've made community participation rewarding because consistent connection drives lasting change.

Common Questions About the Community
Q: Is it really free?
A: Yes, completely free. No credit card required. No hidden costs.
Q: I'm not tech-savvy. Is it easy to use?
A: Absolutely. If you can use Facebook, you can use our community platform. Plus, we have a quick orientation to help you get started.
Q: How much time do I need to commit?
A: Whatever you have. Pop in for 5 minutes or stay for an hour. There's no pressure to be constantly active.
Q: Will you spam me with sales pitches?
A: No. While I do have paid resources available, the community is not a sales funnel. It's genuine support, period.
Q: What if my child has ADHD without dyslexia (or vice versa)?
A: Perfect! Many strategies overlap, and you'll find relevant support regardless of the specific diagnosis.
Q: I'm an educator, not a parent. Is this for me too?
A: Absolutely! We need teacher perspectives. Your insights help parents, and their experiences will help you understand what students face outside school.
Q: What if I'm not in the US?
A: All are welcome! While some school system references may be US-specific, learning differences are universal and most strategies apply everywhere.

The Cost of Staying Isolated
Here's what I know after 25 years of teaching and personal experience:
Isolation multiplies struggles. When you're alone trying to figure out ADHD or dyslexia support, every challenge feels insurmountable. Every setback feels like personal failure. Every small victory goes uncelebrated.
Community transforms outcomes. When you have people who understand, support, and share practical wisdom, everything changes. Not overnight. But consistently. Powerfully. Lastingly.
The question isn't whether you need support. You already know you do.
The question is: Will you take 2 minutes to access it?
