COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Welcome to our supportive community for parents and educators! This is a space where we grow together, learn together, and help our children and students succeed. These guidelines help ensure our community remains caring, positive, and respectful for everyone.
OUR CORE VALUES
THINK Before You Post — this is the guiding principle for all content shared in our community. Before sharing, ask yourself:
T - Is it True? Ensure the accuracy and factual correctness of the information you share. Verify information from reliable sources, especially in the AI era where misinformation can spread quickly.
H - Is it Helpful? Contribute valuable and useful content that benefits the community. Consider if your post provides information, resources, or support that others can use.
I - Is it Inspiring? Offer encouragement, positivity, and motivational insights. Strive to uplift others and foster a positive atmosphere in the community.
N - Is it Necessary? Consider whether your post is relevant and adds value to the discussion. Avoid sharing content that is off-topic or redundant.
K - Is it Kind? Communicate with empathy, respect, and consideration for others. Be mindful of your tone and avoid language that could be harmful or offensive.
SHARING EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES AND RESOURCES
Research-Based Content: When sharing educational strategies or resources you've found online, please do a bit of research to ensure they are evidence-based. In our AI era, not all information is reliable or effective.
Source Citations: It's helpful to include where you found the information so other community members can explore and verify resources.
Quality Over Quantity: We value well-researched, proven strategies that truly benefit our children and students.
BRINGING STRUGGLES AND CONCERNS
We understand that both parents and educators face frustrating moments. You're welcome to share your struggles here, but please follow these guidelines:
The 24-Hour Rule: When you're feeling upset or frustrated about a situation, take 24 hours before posting. This allows you to process your emotions and approach the community in a more constructive way.
Focus on Solutions: When sharing challenges, consider — What's the problem? How did it make you feel? What do you need from the community? (To be heard? Resources? Connection?)
Protect Privacy: Never include specific names of teachers, parents, or other individuals; names of schools or specific locations; or any identifying information. These details aren't necessary for getting the support you need and help protect everyone's privacy.
RESPECTFUL COMMUNICATION
Honor Different Perspectives: We all come from different backgrounds, experiences, and values. There's no single right way to solve problems, and disagreement is okay.
Stay Kind and Respectful: If you notice a conversation becoming negative, take a 24-hour break before continuing.
Give Grace: We all make mistakes. When they happen, we acknowledge them, learn from them, and move forward together.
Consider Your Audience: Remember that children may sometimes see our posts during special sharing moments. Write as if your own child or student might read it.
CREATING A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT
This community is designed to be a place where everyone feels welcome and gets something valuable from their participation. We achieve this by maintaining respectful tones in all posts, supporting each other through challenges, celebrating successes together, approaching disagreements with kindness, and remembering that we're all learning and growing.
PROHIBITION OF MARKETING AND PROMOTION
This community is primarily intended for the sharing of educational resources, support, and discussions related to learning in a distracted world. Therefore:
No Unsolicited Marketing: Members are prohibited from using this community to promote or market outside products, services, or businesses without explicit permission from the community administrator (Kelly Walters Sutherland).
No Spam: Avoid posting promotional content, advertisements, or spam messages.
Permission Required: If you have a resource or service you believe would genuinely benefit the community, please contact Kelly Walters Sutherland directly to request permission before posting any promotional material.
WHEN YOU NEED SUPPORT
Whether you're a parent in "protective mode" or an educator facing classroom challenges, we're here for you. Our community exists to provide a safe space to be heard, practical resources and guidance, connection with others who understand your journey, and solutions that help our children and students thrive.
REMEMBER
This community thrives when we all contribute to making it a positive, supportive space. We're grateful to have you as part of our community, and we look forward to growing and learning together.
These guidelines complement our standard community policies. By participating in our community, you agree to follow these cultural guidelines that make our space special.
